Abyss Artifact Guide

How artifacts work in Abyss Roblox, how to get them, and how to decide which ones to equip — organized around the practical choices you face rather than a flat artifact list.

Who This Guide Is For

You have been playing Abyss and heard that artifacts give permanent buffs — but you are not sure how geodes work, which geode type to prioritize, or whether a specific artifact is actually good. This page explains the system, gives you the documented data, and helps you decide what to equip based on your current goal.

Short Answer

Artifacts come from geodes — random treasure chest drops while fishing. Bring them to Virelia in the Forgotten Dome to open them. There are three geode types: Mossy (Speed/Damage), Rooted (Oxygen/Weight), and Cactus (Cooldown Reduction/mixed). Rarer geode types yield stronger stat ranges. For most players: open every geode you find, equip whatever has the best stat range for your build, and unlock more artifact slots by gaining XP.

How to Get Artifacts

  1. 1

    Catch fish normally

Geodes appear randomly during fishing as a treasure chest marker on the catch progress bar. VG247 notes that you must catch both the treasure chest and the fish in the same mini-game — catch the chest first, then finish the fish before the meter runs out.

  2. 2

    Bring geodes to Virelia

Return to Virelia in the Forgotten Dome (next to the Kraken). She cracks geodes open for a small material fee. The opening process takes 1–3 minutes depending on geode type — you can leave and come back when it is done.

  3. 3

    Equip from inventory

Once the artifact arrives in your inventory, equip it from the inventory screen. Artifacts provide permanent passive buffs as long as they are equipped — they do not need to be activated.

  4. 4

    Unlock more slots with XP

Each artifact slot is unlocked by gaining XP. Early slots unlock quickly; later slots require progressively more XP. Beebom notes that stacking multiple artifacts compounds their effects — more slots = more buffs.

Do not sell geodes unopened

The artifact value from opening a geode almost always exceeds its raw sell price. Virelia opens them for free (or a small material cost). Open every geode you find.

The Three Geode Types

Mossy Geode

Speed, Damage

The speed and damage geode. Common Mossy Geode drops include Banana (Speed +0.75–1.5, Damage +1–1.6%) and Feather (Speed +3.5, Damage +0.5). VG247 lists Mossy Geode roll chance for Banana at 25%.

Best for: DPS builds, time-sensitive farming, any build that benefits from moving faster through water.

Rooted Geode

Oxygen, Weight

The survivability geode. VG247 describes Rooted Geodes as the source of oxygen-capacity artifacts. Tank artifact (Oxygen +8–14%+) and Lantern (Cooldown Reduction, Weight +25–46kg) are documented from Rooted sources. Mango (Oxygen +19%) is cited as from Coconut Geode by Beebom — this may be a naming variation of Rooted.

Best for: Extended underwater sessions, deep zone farming where oxygen depletion is the primary risk.

Cactus Geode

Cooldown Reduction, Weight, Speed (mixed)

The utility geode with mixed stat profiles. Cactus artifact provides Cooldown Reduction (-0.12s to -0.24s). Fish Crate provides Weight (+15–33kg) at a Speed cost. Sea Mine provides Damage (+14%+) at an Oxygen penalty — a classic high-risk/high-reward artifact.

Best for: Builds that want faster catch cycles (more catches per session) and are not oxygen-constrained.

Artifacts by Tier

CommonEasiest to obtain. Moderate stat ranges. VG247 lists Banana at 25% roll chance from Mossy Geode — relatively common drops.
ArtifactGeodeStatsConfidenceNote
BananaMossySpeed +0.75→+1.5, Damage +1→1.6%confirmed VG247: 25% roll chance. Best starter damage/speed artifact.
Sea StarMossyOxygen +5→+8%confirmedSimple oxygen buffer — useful early when you have no other oxygen artifacts.
TankRootedOxygen +8→+22%confirmedBeebom shows wider range (8–22%). Primary survivability artifact for early deep-zone farming.
CactusCactusCooldown Reduction -0.12→-0.24sconfirmedVG247 and Beebom range match. First cooldown artifact; stacks with other CDR artifacts.
UncommonBetter stat ranges than Common. Beebom notes stat ranges are wider — for example, Hour Glass at -0.1s to -0.22s Cooldown Reduction.

Hour GlassMossyCooldown Reduction -0.1→-0.22sconfirmedBeebom shows wider range than Cactus. Better CDR than Common tier.
Fish CrateCactusWeight +15→+33kg, Speed -1.5→-0.9confirmedWeight boost means larger catches stay on your line. Speed penalty makes you slower — consider the tradeoff.
LanternRootedCooldown Reduction -0.16→-0.23s, Weight +25→+46kgconfirmedDual-stat Rooted artifact. Both CDR and Weight in one slot — efficient if both stats help your build.
MangoCoconut/RootedOxygen +19%+partialBeebom lists Coconut Geode; Game8 lists Rooted. Single-stat oxygen artifact with a large cap.
RareSignificantly stronger stat ranges. Sea Mine (Damage +14%+ at Oxygen cost) is the standout high-risk/high-reward artifact from Cactus Geode.
ArtifactGeodeStatsConfidenceNote
Sea MineCactusOxygen -6%, Damage +14%+confirmedHigh damage at an oxygen penalty. Best used in zones where oxygen is not the primary constraint — e.g., Ancient Sands near air pockets.
FeatherMossySpeed +3.5, Damage +0.5confirmedGame8: "Speed : 3.5 Damage: 0.5". Strong speed artifact with minor damage bonus.

Stat ranges from Game8 (February 2026) and Beebom (February 2026). VG247 (February 2026) confirms Banana roll chance and Sea Mine stat profile. Epic and Legendary artifact documentation is limited in available sources — check in-game for current values.

Build Guidance

Money Farming Build

Maximize cash per session

Prioritize artifacts that increase catches per session (Cooldown Reduction) and cash bonuses (from your race). Oxygen artifacts reduce the need to surface.

Recommended

  • Lantern (Uncommon): CDR + Weight in one slot. More catches per session, better catch retention.
  • Cactus (Common): CDR to speed up the catch cycle. Early and accessible.
  • Tank or Sea Star: Oxygen extension lets you stay deeper longer without returning to an air pocket.
  • Feather (Rare): Speed +3.5 for faster movement between catch locations.

Caution

  • Sea Mine: Oxygen penalty is punishing in long farming sessions where you are already pushing oxygen limits.

Confidence: community consensus — individual sources may vary

Progression / Combat Build

Survive harder zones and handle aggressive fish

Prioritize damage and survivability. Oxygen artifacts help in deep zones; damage artifacts help clear more dangerous fish.

Recommended

  • Sea Mine (Rare): Damage +14%+ is the highest documented damage artifact. The oxygen penalty is manageable near air pockets or with other oxygen artifacts stacked.
  • Banana (Common): Damage +1.6% with Speed — small but consistent boost in combat situations.
  • Tank (Common): Oxygen +14–22% extends deep-zone survival. Essential for Ancient Sands and beyond.
  • Hour Glass (Uncommon): Better CDR than Cactus — more catch attempts per session while you are grinding quest fish.

Caution

  • Fish Crate: Speed penalty makes dodging aggressive fish harder. Weight benefit is less relevant in combat than in money farming.

Confidence: community consensus — individual sources may vary

Balanced All-Around Build

Handle any content without specializing

Stack one artifact from each geode type. Each type covers a different stat category — mixing them gives broad coverage without holes.

Recommended

  • Feather (Mossy): Speed +3.5 for mobility — helps in every situation.
  • Lantern (Rooted): CDR + Weight — the most versatile single artifact in the game.
  • Tank (Rooted): Oxygen +14–22% — offsets the oxygen cost of other artifacts and deep zones.

Confidence: community consensus — individual sources may vary

How Artifact Slots Work

  • Slots unlock through XPGaining XP in Abyss — through quests, fishing, and progression — unlocks additional artifact slots. Early slots unlock quickly; later slots require significantly more XP. Beebom notes that stacking more artifacts compounds their effects.
  • No way to buy slots directlyThere is no cash purchase or Robux purchase for artifact slots. The only path is XP progression. This makes XP potions ($6,500) useful for players specifically grinding slot unlocks.
  • Equip artifacts to activate themHaving an artifact in your inventory is not enough — you must equip it from the inventory screen. Unequipped artifacts provide no benefit. Multiple equipped artifacts stack their effects additively.
  • More slots = more flexibilityEarly game you may have 1–2 slots. Late game you may have 4–6. The most powerful loadouts require 4+ slots to build effectively. Prioritize XP progression to expand your build options.
