Abyss Progression Guide
This page focuses on progression decisions that stay useful even when exact level gates or shop prices shift. The goal is to help you avoid bad purchases and move through the game with fewer resets.
Core Rule
Buy upgrades that unlock new routes, improve landing speed, or remain useful for multiple stages. Skip the ones that only feel slightly better for a short window.
Opening Progression
- Learn the catch loop and stop wasting money on tiny starter upgrades.
- Use free rewards and code redemptions to smooth out your first few purchases.
- Aim for the first weapon and tube upgrades that clearly change what areas you can handle.
Midgame Progression
- This is where route efficiency matters most: bad upgrade timing slows you down more than bad luck.
- Most public guides agree that midgame gun and tube jumps are more valuable than random side spending.
- Good races start to matter here, but they should support your gear path, not replace it.
Late Progression
- Once you can reach deeper and harder zones, prioritize upgrades that still scale into the next area.
- Public guides consistently rate Wild Gun, top tubes, and high-tier races as the strongest long-term investments.
- At this stage, artifact builds start to matter because your base gear is already good enough.
Usually Worth Saving For
- Crossbow Gun and later progression guns.
- Pufferfish Tube and later high-value tube upgrades.
- Strong reroll outcomes like Monkey, Shark, Sea Angel, or Kraken depending on stage.
Usually Worth Delaying
- Speculative niche artifacts when your core gear is still weak.
- Overcommitting to cosmetic or novelty purchases.
- Chasing a perfect late-game build before you can reliably farm it.
